Museums
Narrow Gauge Railway, often gently called “Siaurukas”, is a unique technical monument, stretching in the eastern Highlands, from Panevėžys up to Rubikiai, situated close to Anykščiai. This is one of the current symbols of Anykščiai which is very popular both among the tourists from Lithuania and from abroad.
Here you can try regular trips, taking place from May until October, participate in the celebratory and educational trips organised during the whole year or simply order an individual journey following your preferred route or the one offered by the organisers.
Travelling in “Siaurukas” is in itself an unforgettable entertainment. As this railway has some exceptional features, you will be able to enjoy the natural scenery just outside of it and the eye-pleasing landscape. However, you get even more than that, as every journey has a specific topic, which will help you to not only get to know the region of Anykščiai and its history better but also to try out various types of entertainments.
For example, when travelling the route Anykščiai–Troškūnai–Anykščiai, you will be able to visit the Troškūnai Monastery and Church Ensemble. You will hear the stories about the monastery and its legends in the undergrounds of the church as well as you will learn about the values of sacred art. Meanwhile, when going on a route Anykščiai–Rubikiai–Anykščiai, you will have a chance to taste delicious food in Žuvienės Pašiūrė and enjoy the entertainment offered by the Rubikiai Lake: the beach of white sand, swimming in boats, rafts or water bikes.
Festive and educational tours are usually organised for certain occasions, for example, Saint Jonas’ Festival, Coronation of King Mindaugas, beginning and ending of the school year. In autumn, you can join Beaujolais journey for people, enjoying wine. You may also travel in winter for the occasions, such as the Mardi Gras or Christmas. Special educational journeys are also organised, for example, to get to know the region of Latava or for a picnic called “Natural and cultural treasures of Anykščiai”.
Trips, organised according to the special orders, are very popular among the people, celebrating weddings or the companies which provide this type of entertainment for their employees as a gift, as well as organisers of other celebrations. Travellers will enjoy the food, live music and other entertaining surprises. Probably everyone has heard about people fighting for the poor, whom you can meet in these areas and who do not miss a chance to check whether the passengers of the train are not bringing too many expensive items with themselves? Therefore, it is obvious that if you have not tried going in “Siaurukas” and a lot of its additional advantages, then you should definitely do it!
