Dauniškis park and the fountain is one of the most impressive places in the city of Utena. What impresses most is the fact that Dauniškis lake, after which a nearby park takes its name, is comforably situated in the town centre surrounded by houses, streets, a pine grove and the Chapel of St. Virgin Mary, Queen of Martyrs.
In 2011, when Utena was celebrating the 750th anniversary, Dauniškis Lake was decorated with the illuminated and playing fountain.
park and the fountain are like two brothers of this lake, inviting the residents of Utena and guests from other cities of Lithuania and abroad to enjoy the show of light and music on the water. During the summer, “the singing and dancing” fountain invites the audience every evening to appreciate a real carousel of colours, feelings and lights. The spectators are gathering on the bridge near the fountain or watch the performance from another side of the lake in a boat or sitting on the stairs of the chapel.
The stream of water goes upwards at the sounds of contemporary or classical music and it seems that Dauniškis Lake becomes the best attraction, where the only most important things are good mood and interaction with people surrounding you.
The park is very much loved by teenagers, elderly people and families with small children as a result of the possibility to breathe in the fresh air from the pine forests, to stroll around without any noise and a constant buzzing of the cars. The smallest residents of the city and the guests can play on the shore of the lake, as it has modern climbing facilities, improving motility, and swings as well as equipment which is designed for the kids to do sports.
The infrastructure is really convenient, as nearby you can find a car parking lot and a cosy coffee place, which works all year round. When the summer buzzing slows down, the fountain is turned off until the spring, but during the winter Dauniškis park does not lose its charm. Did you know that you can walk or run around Dauniškis lake? A convenient wooden path is established around it, which is used by the athletes to run around in the morning or for others to walk around, if they are not afraid of the rain or cold.
Nature lovers feed the birds which have remained on the shore to hibernate or those which did not manage to fly away with bread or seeds. This is a certain type of gratitude to the nature for a possibility to live in a natural space, where the trees and nature constantly remind that all of us are related.
